This module seeks to provide an overview of the field of human rights and international humanitarian law (IHL). It seeks to increase knowledge and awareness of IHL among the students, enabling them to work in environments where it is relevant.
It deals
with the origins, purpose, sources, principles and development of IHL and it application and effects on armed conflicts; uses
appropriate case studies to assess the role of international criminal law, the
congruence between human rights and humanitarian law, gender and law, and the
protection of vulnerable groups such as children.
