WELCOME TO ECON 1C0
The aim of the course is to give you a basic insight into what Micro Economics is all about. The course highlights how Economics is universal and affects all aspects of our lives, whether we are aware of it or not. Scarcity and competition for resources is the basis of all economic insights and when viewed correctly can be used to explain everything, as you shall discover. In addition, the course aims to teach you how to analyse information and use deductive reasoning to identify underlying causal relationships. These skills are essential to all forms of problem solving.
As foundation students, you will be enrolled for the mainstream Economics course as of next year. This course together with the tutorial support will provide you with access to the basic knowledge and the critical thinking tools you require to bridge the gap between high school and university, prior to tackling the mainstream course.
Course Assessment: Is via 3 tests, tutorials and Exam for the entire semester. The tests will follow the same format: 100% via Multiple Choice Questions.
Examples of past tests and exams are available on the page, see the relevant section below. Please note these examples are to give you an indication of the format and what to expect. They are not meant to be an indication of what will appear in the actual test.
We try to make the content interesting and interactive, however, the success of the course is dependent on your contributions as well. As such we enjoy debate and discussion and encourage it.
Please check the glass notice board (in the Commerce Basement) or Moodle every day for any new information pertaining to the course. You are responsible for your own learning and must therefore ensure you are in the right place at the right time. This applies to test dates and venues as well.
