This course explores the use of different media for creating two dimensional artworks. Projects include relief printmaking, painting, collage and mixed media. It builds on the skills learned in FIAR101 Drawing and Design, but is also a standalone elective for students who have not done FIAR101.
This is a practical, in-studio module, and attendance at class sessions is compulsory. It is important that you do your work in class, with input from your lecturer and/or tutor. Please let them know if you are absent and why. For illness, please report it, and supply a doctors certificate when you return to class.
The outcomes are for students to:
- Learn and apply traditional methods of drawing, painting, and printmaking
- Gain knowledge of the theories that apply to these traditional methods, including studying the formal elements of two dimensional artworks by other artists
- Gain awareness of contemporary approaches
- Practice research skills, and the keeping of visual diaries
- Follow the creative process from start to finish of a project
- Develop good studio practices, including care of art materials, studio equipment, and maintaining a tidy and orderly studio space
- Display all projects for examination at the end of the semester, including a portfolio of preparatory work/visual diaries
