This module provides an introduction to biogeography and geomorphology through selected resource materials. Students are introduced to theories and doctrines related to the origin of the earth’s crustal features. Key processes and landforms associated with fluvialism, horizontal and inclined strata are discussed. Environmental sustainability, which was goal 7 of the Millenium Development Goals, is infused into discussions across the module because the MDGs were not achieved, thus the SDGs especially Goals 13 (Climate Action), 14 (Life below water) and Goal 15 (life on land) have relevance. Thus, biomes and ecosystems are seen to be of vital importance. A special focus on coastal environments provides an understanding of the links between geomorphology and biogeography. Reference to case studies (local and international), as well as discussions of current issues such as the COVID-19 pandemic, April & May 2022 Durban Floods and Landslides, assist in providing an understanding of ongoing current debates.
