Welcome to EDNS112.
This module is the second of four content modules in the senior phase Natural Sciences Learning Area. As such, the entrance requirement for this module is completion of Science Toolbox (EDNS111). All students registered for this module must be registered for the Senior and FET phase specialisation with an FET specialisation in either Biological Sciences or Physical Sciences. As an introductory module to Physical Sciences, the aim of this module is to enable preservice teachers to develop the skills required to engage meaningfully in the study of Natural Sciences in the senior phase. Thus, the module content has been selected to provide some of the foundational knowledge and skills from the discipline areas of physics and chemistry.
The FET Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences content modules will build on the relevant skills and knowledge that are developed within the Natural Sciences content modules. As such, the knowledge, skills, and competences that are developed in this, and other Natural Sciences content modules, will be required in subsequent content modules in both Biological Sciences and Physical Sciences. Thus, you are advised to keep all materials that are distributed and used in the Natural Sciences modules for future reference.
The module content and topics to be covered are highlighted on the course outline under "Administration" tab.
Wishing you all the best.

The aim of this module is to provide students with a well-rounded and broad education that equips the graduate with the in-depth knowledge, theory and methodologies of the discipline to enable them to demonstrate initiative and responsibility in an academic and professional context within an inclusive education framework. In particular, it will assist students in developing the ability to plan learning programmes using the knowledge and skills acquired in the previous two modules. Furthermore, students will be engaged in the development of two projects- one on the research and application of IKS in Science education as well as the development of an issue-based environmental education project.
